THE JACK COOK MEMORIAL AWARD
The recipient for this award is given to an eligible Sea Cadet in good standing at an R.C.S.C.C. unit in one of 32 corps in southern Ontario, between the ages of 15 and 19 at the time of nomination. They are also recognized for character, achievement and exceptional service to the corps or their community and nominated by their Commanding Officer.
The winner of this award will have their name and corps added as permanent pennants on the rigging on the Bluenose trophy.
Open to any Sea Cadet, Naval Reservist, male or female, OR or officer. A non-registered ongoing instructor or advisor of superior dedication to the Unit meeting the basic criteria is not excluded if no other is submitted.
The nominee should have demonstrated a superior dedication to the Unit, in marks, progression, additional contribution in a general case. Top marks are not a criteria, but poor technical performance in general is exclusive.
Preferably, the nominee should have already demonstrated or shown a marked interest in Naval, Sea Cadet, Navy League or Naval Reserves history, background and or traditions in some way. By demonstrated knowledge and awareness, writings, speaking, encouraging others or otherwise of that interest.
A demonstrated knowledge of the history and traditions of any one or more of those formations, or in general, or a demonstrated intention to expand such interest, is a primary plus, although, lack thereof is not essential, failing others selected, if necessary. Better the award should be made annually than ‘skipped’ because no candidates were proposed that demonstrated an interest in history or tradition.
